Fishman Fluid Dispense Guns Are Used by BioPrinter Manufacturer Organovo to Dispense Cells

The Fishman Linear Dispense Gun is used by Organovo because it provides the process control that is needed for applications in bioprinting. Fishman AirFree® technology eliminates the guesswork and unpredictability that is associated with air-driven systems. The AirFree® linear drive system (LDS) is repeatable within ±5%, ensuring the same amount of material is dispensed each and every time the system is cycled. If multiple systems are used on the same production line the performance will be exactly the same, from the beginning of the production run to the end. Through this increased process control AirFree® technology lowers the cost of ownership due to reduction of maintenance and energy costs.

Organovo, the global leader in bioprinting technology, uses the Fishman AirFree® Linear Drive System in the fluid dispensing of human cells. Recently, the process was explained during a Fox News segment featuring Organovo CEO Keith Murphy.

Organovo uses a 3D bioprinter to lay down cells layer by layer and build them up into living tissue. This tissue can be used for toxicity studies to find better drugs and find drug efficacy and safety to improve drug outcomes. It allows researchers to be more predictive with how a drug will behave when it gets to clinical trials by first testing it on tissue outside of the body. Organovo creates liver, lung, bone and a number of other tissues. Going forward, the platform can be used in academic research labs to build towards making larger tissues and full organs.
