That 70’s Show is Spinning Tales Again and El Presidente must Rebut! (Part 1)

Recently a member of the “That 70’s Show” community put out information that, in El Presidente’s opinion, is not factually correct.  As the seeker of truth and facts, El Presidente must rebut this feeble attempt at spinning the facts.

For all of you new to this blog, El Presidente refers to the competition as “That 70’s Show” because the core of their technology is air pressure and it was first developed in the mid 1970’s.  Yikes!!!

All of El Presidente’s readers are intelligent people and a good percentage are trained engineers.  Using a common sense approach, it’s easy to see through the “smoke and mirrors” being used by the “That 70’s Show” community in a desperate attempt to convince their customer base their technology still matters 30+ years later.  For example, the basis of their claim is air outperforms positive displacement when dispensing fluid from a cylinder.  Of course we all know positive displacement always outperforms air just as we all know the sun is brighter than the moon.  That said, we should simply ignore claims that air pressure is better and end the blog right here but……for grins and giggles…….let’s address the “smoke and mirror” claims one by one.  This could be fun!

HOLLA!  HOLLA!  El Presidente declares the rebuttal commenced!

That 70’s Show Claim # 1

Air dispenses all fluids.

Positive displacement dispenses mostly two component fluids.

Huh?  Since 1997 Fishman’s AirFree® Linear Drive Patented Technology has competed with and defeated “That 70’s Show” 1970 air driven technology on a wide range of fluids and they know it.  El Presidente has provided a few example tests as backup.  The truth is in the numbers.  One claim and El Presidente is already dizzy from the “Spin.”

That 70’s Show Claim # 2

Air – Real time display of air pressure and dispense time reflect actual dispensing parameters.

Positive Displacement – Displacement value on display is a mathematical computation of how far the lead screw travels – not how much fluid is displaced.

Huh?  What does that have to do with the price of Apples in China?  First Einstein, both systems displace fluid from a cylinder.  Last time I checked, inner diameter and distance traveled determines the amount of fluid dispensed.  To determine how much fluid is dispensed from the cylinder, both air and positive displacement use the same mathematical computation.

In actuality, neither system could tell you the exact amount of fluid dispensed because both are pushing on a column of fluid and the fluid’s flow rate impacts the output.  That said, the SmartDispenser® is smart: it knows the syringe size, the fluid volume you want and calculates the distance it needs to travel to displace the proper fluid.  The air dispenser is stupid: it has no idea which syringe size is attached or what fluid volume you want and the first dispense is based on how you turn the knobs.  Do you know how far to turn the knobs?  Of course not, it is a total guessing game.  You have no idea what fluid volume will come out the end.  You have to spend hours in a trial and error process pushing buttons and turning knobs to find the right dispense volume.

Since 1975 “That 70’s Show” has not been able to allow customers to input a volume because air is so wildly out of control you can’t apply a mathematical computation to it.  Fishman’s technology uses a precision stepper motor and lead screw allowing you to input a volume, translated into steps of the motor, putting you very close to the correct dispense volume on the first try. Proof positive: if you set one up at your facility and El Presidente sets one up in his office and we use the same syringe, dispense tip and dispense program, each SmartDispenser® will perform exactly the same.  YOU CAN’T DO THAT WITH AIR!  Because electricity is the same via the SmartDispenser® power supply anywhere in the world.  Every air compressor and plumbing system is different from facility to facility.  Get it?  “That 70’s Show” is actually spinning one of their greatest weaknesses as a strength?  Wow!  Hilarious!  I bet they have a bridge to sell you too.

BTW: If you do want acutal verification of the amount you dispensed….you guessed it….EL Presidente and the 21st Centruy Marauders engineered it in…..The SmartDispenser® can do it!  Yep.  Air can’t, too stupid!

That 70’s Show Claim # 3

Air – Simple adjustments maintain accuracy as barrel empties.

Positive Displacement – As barrel empties, lead screw pull back does not change so there is less fluid compression and the deposit consistency suffers.

Ok, we opened the blog making the point everyone on the planet knows positive displacement out performs air pressure when dispensing fluid from a cylinder.  Let me add the SmartDispenser’s™ predecessor product, the LDS9000®, was born from “That 70’s Show’s” customers complaining about having to make SIMPLE ADJUSTMENTS ALL DAY LONG!!!  Not so simple when you have to make them hundreds of times a day, are they?  Did I mention you never have to adjust the SmartDispenser®Set it and forget it.  Furthermore, in defense of “That 70’s Show’s” claim # 1 we presented hard testing data AirFree® technology drastically outperforms air systems in terms of fluid deposit repeatability.  To add insult to injury, the SmartDispenser’s™ patent pending ProcessControl2®™ program uses an advanced algorithm to reduce lead screw backoff as the syringe empties.  So this claim is factually incorrect.  What next?  The moon landing was a fake, right?  Geeezeee!  Obviously the authors of these claims did not do their homework.  Surprised?  I’m not based on how exposed they are thus far.

Ok folks, this is an old fashioned butt kicking- 3-0 Elpresidente!  El Presidente needs to take a break to process how disappointing and misleading these claims are.  Listen, when a key vendor to your supply chain starts spinning the truth you need to dump that vendor right away.  If you rely on bad information and outdated equipment from a key vendor to make your product you are going to make inferior product.  I promise you El Presidente will be back to expose the remainder of these claims on my next blog, that is…….if the document is still published.  I think there may be a good chance this gets retracted very soon and someone is out of a job.  Score one for the good guys!
