Why did NBC decide on tape delay for Olympics? We want real time production data…

Like many others, I believe  NBC made a huge mistake in deciding to use tape delay for primary viewing of Olympics. In this day of instant, real time production data information, we can’t help but see the results ahead of time, from a variety of sources. Their tape delay makes it all so anticlimactic, not to mention those “spoiler” alerts. Too bad they did not consider their customers(us!) first, rather than focusing on how they could maximize ad revenue during prime time viewing.  We want to see it live, we expect it,  it is the way we are all getting wired and we want to be part of it, why should we wait? There is no need.

The same applies to  SmartDispenser users, Production Managers want real data from their assembly equipment.  Measurements in real-time are the number one driver of success and product profitability.Production Managers that are using SmartDispensers are provided daily production yields, they use upward or downward trends to provide real time costing changes to finance for instant analysis of impact on product pricing and financial forecasts.

It will be interesting to see what the fallout is with the NBC tape delay method, my bet is that by the time the next US Olympic committee awards exclusive coverage to anyone, real time viewing for US customers, regardless of time  difference, will be a major consideration.
